Shop unplugged7/24/2023 It doesn't make sense for any company to allow a reseller to stockpile hardware and then let the warranty clock start when the reseller sells it, months years down the road. I'm not talking about maintenance service contracts I'm talking about the warranty of the product itself. I think we're talking past each other here. I agree with everyone else here, Ubiquiti's warranty is out of the norm, total dog-shit and anti-consumer. The key factor here is that both offer the ability to purchase a maintenance and support contract that basically extends the warranty as long as the contract is active. Once the warranty begins, their standard period of 90 days of coverage kicks in. Once that warranty on the product becomes active, Juniper offers a full year.Ĭisco's is the exact same thing, the distributor has a 90 day period they can hold the product in stock before the warranty begins. the distributor can keep a product in stock for up to 90 days before the warranty clock starts ticking on it. Junipers starts from the time the product leaves the authorized distributor to the consumer unless that is more than 90 days after the distributor originally received it. If all else fails, then contact your credit card company about it. You should reach out to them first rather than assume they won't cover you based on the warranty. I don't even own one, and I've heard about this issue a few times. That said, given the problems with the BeaconHDs, I think most of us would be shocked if Ubiquiti didn't cover you. I think the "date of shipment" portion was unclear (date of shipment to whom?), which prompted the revision. UBIQUITI warrants that the product(s) covered hereunder (the "Product(s)") shall be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of shipment by UBIQUITI under normal use and operation. (So, just to be clear, before October 2020, even if you purchased on ui.com instead of through a retailer, you still would have only had a one year warranty.) The Wayback Machine) provides a way to check, and from this snapshot on, it appears that they did two things: lengthened the warranty for customers who purchase on ui.com from one to two years, and clarified the warranty terms for customers who purchase through authorized resellers. I'll be filing an RMA claim this week if I can't easily un-brick the device in the next couple days.Īctually, since the warranty from the above URL was revised after my purchase, I wonder if the warranty terms at the time I purchased were less deceiving, and I'm still covered. I do not know how to find the warranty terms from my date of purchase. At the time I purchased, I did not know that the warranty would be LESS THAN HALF the stated duration if I purchased other than direct from Ubiquiti.Īctually, since the warranty from the above URL was revised after my purchase, I wonder if the warranty terms at the time I purchased were less deceiving, and I'm still covered. This was my first Ubiquity purchase, and I didn't know if I was going to stick with the brand. I avoided purchasing directly from Ubiquiti's online store because of its 15% restocking fee and short 14-day return window. I specifically looked for an authorized option, wanting to avoid potential issue if I needed to make a warranty claim. This device was purchased less than a year ago from an authorized Reseller or Distributor. It's not entirely bricked, but it cannot be adopted due to a bug in Ubiquiti software. I have a BeaconHD that is dead after my UDM pushed a firmware update to the BeaconHD. I cannot imagine any reputable company writing such an outrageous warranty clause. If that was 5 months before you took possession after purchase from an AUTHORIZED reseller, then you get only 7 months of actual warranty. It's a year from the date that Ubiquiti shipped the product to the distributor/reseller. This states you get a 2 year warranty from date of delivery if purchased direct from Ubiquiti.īut if you purchase from an authorized distributor/reseller, then the warranty is LESS THAN ONE YEAR. The “Warranty Period” means (a) for Products purchased by the customer directly from UBIQUITI’S Webstores, two years after the date of delivery of such Product to such customer and (b) for Products purchased from an authorized UBIQUITI distributor or reseller, one year after the date of shipment of such Product to such authorized distributor or reseller. I even wonder if the terms violate consumer protection laws in some countries. Advice is welcome, but not expected.Īfter reading the warranty terms for Ubiquiti products, I'm a bit unsettled.
